Welcome to the official webpage of Ultimate Tower Defense, a game currently in development.
A demo will be made available, including one full campaign. The full version of the game will include several more campaigns, and will be sold for a low price (predicted to be about $20).
Bookmark this page, UltimateTowerDefense.com, and check back regularly for updates.
Note: This game is back in development! While you wait, check out Josh Forde's other game here: Seeds of Time Online (browser-based MMORPG). You can contact Josh there or at JoshForde.com.
New screenshot, May 21, 2008 - game is still under development

May 21, 2008 :: New screenshot
Another update today: I have uploaded a new screenshot. Click here to see it.
May 21, 2008 :: Things are looking great
I have finished sculpting the maze for the first campaign, and the background for the first campaign is nearly complete. The game is coming along very well!
May 20, 2008 :: New FAQ added
Take a look at the new FAQ page. Also, a little insider information: Orbulite, the adorable purple blob monster from Seeds of Time Online (my other game), will be making a cameo appearance in UTD! Other SoTO monsters may be making appearances as well.
May 19, 2008 :: Scenery is looking good
Check out the Screenshots page for a new screenshot (or just click here). You can now get a good idea of what the scenery will look like.
May 15, 2008 :: Working on the game some more
I'm still spending most of my time on Seeds of Time Online, but I've decided to dedicate a portion of my time back to Ultimate Tower Defense again.
In fact, I even added a new screenshot (click here to see it), which gives a much more accurate depiction of what the first campaign will look like. Clearly,
many of the graphics are still placeholders, but this screenshot looks much better than the previous screenshots.
November 15, 2007 :: Taking a break to work on a new game
The lack of updates is because I've been working on a new game, Seeds of Time Online.
That game is currently live (in open alpha testing with an official launch to begin estimated January 1, 2008). Until further notice,
production of Ultimate Tower Defense is on hold, but I do intend to finish UTD at some point when I have more time on my hands; development
is too far along for me to just drop the title.
July 21, 2007 :: New screenshot
More and more towers keep being added, as you can see in the new screenshot. Including upgrades, there are currently 15 towers.
Also, be sure to register on the forums and starting posting messages. Registration currently requires no e-mail verification (that will change eventually, though).
July 17, 2007 :: Forums launched
I have launched the official Ultimate Tower Defense forums, located here. You can chat with other fans,
and you can also ask me questions about UTD.
July 12, 2007 :: Linux port will be a reality
It took a few days, but I'm now able to run Ultimate Tower Defense on Linux!
So Linux users, celebrate, because you won't be left in the cold when UTD is released for both
Windows and Linux platforms.
July 8, 2007 :: New screenshot shows the first campaign's GUI
I've uploaded a new screenshot. This new screenshot shows how the first campaign's GUI currently looks, and it will
probably look very similar to this on release. Of course, no monsters have been drawn yet, so the smily face placeholder still remains in the screenshot.
The simple, green ground is a placeholder as well.
July 7, 2007 :: First campaign is off to a good start
When composing the music for the first campaign, I completely changed my mind on what the first campaign should be.
Instead of the typical medieval theme I had planned on, the first campaign will be something much more fun: a tropical island theme. In this campaign,
you will have to defend your straw hut. The hut contains your only supply of food, and dozens of tropical animals are trying to snag some of it.
You'll have to launch coconuts and other projectiles are the creatures to keep them away.
Progress so far: the music is complete, and the first tower, the Coconut Cannon, has been drawn, as well as its first upgrade.
With this graphical progress, screenshots in the near future are likely. Keep this page bookmarked!
July 5, 2007 :: New screenshot
I had another news update here yesterday, but I guess it must not have uploaded properly. It basically said that bullets can now be animated.
More importantly, a new screenshot has been uploaded. In the screenshot, you can see that the tooltip background has changed, the font has changed, the new
button graphics are implemented, and some various other changes.
Also, you can check out Ultimate Tower Defense's page on Great Games Experiment.
July 3, 2007 :: Starting on the design
Writing the campaign editor has become more work than it's worth, and it's too buggy. As a result, I've decided to drop the editor and do the design by hand.
This way, I can jump into the design right away, rather than a month or two from now-- this will result in the game being released sooner. Designing the game
by hand (i.e., with a text editor) won't actually be much more difficult than it would have been to edit the game in the editor.
Since I made that decision last night, I've been working on the game's graphics. The health bar images, the font, and parts of the GUI have been updated.
I've repositioned a few things on-screen as well, and so the game is starting to look better. I also changed the bullet system a bit to make it look better.
Later on, I want to write in the capability to animate bullets, because that will probably be very important with certain towers.
I'll be planning out the first campaign and/or fixing up various graphics in the coming days. I still think I can finish this game by the end of the year.
June 25, 2007 :: "Tower editor" portion of editor complete
The campaign editor is taking longer than expected to write. Let's just say that the Windows API is currently not one of my strong points. Programming the game's code
was much easier than this. Anyway, the tower-editing dialog is complete now (as well as a couple of smaller dialogs that I finished some time ago). Next, I'll have to design and code
the monster editor, which should be significantly easier. Then a wave editor.. and a path editor.. starting/ending points. This will take some time.
June 5, 2007 :: Welcome to the new website
Here's the new website for UltimateTowerDefense. I'll probably re-do most of the site shortly before the game launches, but for now, this will be something of a development blog.
